When did parenting become so relaxed ? I sit in amazement of the things that my kids say to me and better yet, the things that I ALLOW for my kids to say to me. The sassy backtalk gets more intense on a daily basis and I ALLOW it to happen!
Here are things that my kids say to me:
"Build A Bridge and Get Over It"
"Blah, Blah, Blah"
"You Want A Piece Of Me"
What has changed over the past 30 years?
If I had been caught thinking about saying what some of the things that my kids say to me, I would have been "slapped into next Tuesday" as my mom used to say. We were taught to say "Yes Ma'am", "No Ma'am" "Yes Sir", "No Sir". You did not talk back and you did not question authority. Those who did not comply with the rules simply suffered the consequences!
Is it the sitcoms on the Disney Channel? Is it the fear of Children's Services being held over my head? Is it that I am so busy trying to be a "fun" parent that I let it go?
Maybe they get it from me ?
I am a naturally fun loving and sassy person... but so was MY mother. I just knew not to go there with her. She could hear us mumbling things under our breaths two rooms away!! How did she do that ?
They listen to their father, but won't listen to me!
My husband has some how found a way to command their respect.. Where did I go wrong? Is it the tone of my voice or is it my size? Am I just a whimp or a pushover? Am I raising kids or am I ruining kids ?
And those are my thoughts for the morning in no particular order!
