Years ago, Bill Cosby had a sketch that talked about kids having brain damage. At the time that it was released, I was just a kid myself and had NO CLUE what the heck he was talking about. Now that I am a parent.... I fully understand! Kids get side tracked very easily!! You ask them to do something and they find 100 things to do along the way.
Each morning, I have to constantly remind my kids to "start eating", "eat the food, not play with it", "finish eating", "go brush your teeth" etc. Teeth brushing is where we fall apart every morning. Some how the walk up the stairs becomes the world's longest distraction!!! This morning, I must have said. GO BRUSH YOUR TEETH five times. I finally stopped ironing clothes to see what was going on and I witness Miss Thang sitting in the hallway, reading from her "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" book to her brother who was doing the "Stanky Legg", while he listened. What part of brush your teeth means story time and act like you're at the dance club?
A peek into my semi-functional family's day to day happenings as we navigate through this wonderful thing called life.

Get To The Point!
I am pretty sure that is was not a good idea for my daughter to say "Get to the point" to my husband tonight while he was scolding her for misbehaving ! YIKES O_O !!!
I had flashbacks to my childhood and ran and hid in another room..... I wasn't even the one who said it!
I keep telling her that just because she sees kids on the Disney channel talking to their parents like they don't have good sense, does not mean that she should try it in this house! A hard head and a smart mouth makes for a paternal verbal smack down and an early bedtime! =)
IMHO, kids today get away with A LOT more than we did in the 70's!! All that I know is if I would have said that to my dad, my head would have been knocked off and I would have been feeling around on the floor trying to reattach it!

If I Said That When I Was Your Age....
When did parenting become so relaxed ? I sit in amazement of the things that my kids say to me and better yet, the things that I ALLOW for my kids to say to me. The sassy backtalk gets more intense on a daily basis and I ALLOW it to happen!
Here are things that my kids say to me:
"Build A Bridge and Get Over It"
"Blah, Blah, Blah"
"You Want A Piece Of Me"
What has changed over the past 30 years?
If I had been caught thinking about saying what some of the things that my kids say to me, I would have been "slapped into next Tuesday" as my mom used to say. We were taught to say "Yes Ma'am", "No Ma'am" "Yes Sir", "No Sir". You did not talk back and you did not question authority. Those who did not comply with the rules simply suffered the consequences!
Is it the sitcoms on the Disney Channel? Is it the fear of Children's Services being held over my head? Is it that I am so busy trying to be a "fun" parent that I let it go?
Maybe they get it from me ?
I am a naturally fun loving and sassy person... but so was MY mother. I just knew not to go there with her. She could hear us mumbling things under our breaths two rooms away!! How did she do that ?
They listen to their father, but won't listen to me!
My husband has some how found a way to command their respect.. Where did I go wrong? Is it the tone of my voice or is it my size? Am I just a whimp or a pushover? Am I raising kids or am I ruining kids ?
And those are my thoughts for the morning in no particular order!

Busted!!!
My husband just scolded my son for raising his voice at my daughter. When asked why he was yelling, his reply was
"I asked mommy to get me some more cereal, but she was being lazy and asked Jaiden to get it"
OUCH!!! Did I just get busted by a 5 year old for pawning off my parental duties ?
