Years ago, Bill Cosby had a sketch that talked about kids having brain damage. At the time that it was released, I was just a kid myself and had NO CLUE what the heck he was talking about. Now that I am a parent.... I fully understand! Kids get side tracked very easily!! You ask them to do something and they find 100 things to do along the way.
Each morning, I have to constantly remind my kids to "start eating", "eat the food, not play with it", "finish eating", "go brush your teeth" etc. Teeth brushing is where we fall apart every morning. Some how the walk up the stairs becomes the world's longest distraction!!! This morning, I must have said. GO BRUSH YOUR TEETH five times. I finally stopped ironing clothes to see what was going on and I witness Miss Thang sitting in the hallway, reading from her "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" book to her brother who was doing the "Stanky Legg", while he listened. What part of brush your teeth means story time and act like you're at the dance club?
A peek into my semi-functional family's day to day happenings as we navigate through this wonderful thing called life.

Get To The Point!
I am pretty sure that is was not a good idea for my daughter to say "Get to the point" to my husband tonight while he was scolding her for misbehaving ! YIKES O_O !!!
I had flashbacks to my childhood and ran and hid in another room..... I wasn't even the one who said it!
I keep telling her that just because she sees kids on the Disney channel talking to their parents like they don't have good sense, does not mean that she should try it in this house! A hard head and a smart mouth makes for a paternal verbal smack down and an early bedtime! =)
IMHO, kids today get away with A LOT more than we did in the 70's!! All that I know is if I would have said that to my dad, my head would have been knocked off and I would have been feeling around on the floor trying to reattach it!

Intuition & The Reckless Elephant
Intuition is amazing! I was with my family at the Carousel @ Columbus Commons. I was going to get on an elephant but thought, no, because of my sorority heritage! I choose a horse and the ride began . Two minuets into the ride, the ELEPHANT snapped from the pole and crashed into my daughter's animal and then knocked down two more poles. I am so glad that I had a reason for not getting on the elephant! Thank God none of us were hurt!
Here is a picture of the Reckless Elephant!!! Notice how the pole is missing from the bottom!!

Praying/Spraying Those Monsters Away
For the past few weeks, my son has woken up in the middle of the night screaming about having bad dreams with monsters. He is TERRIFIED and can't seem to get back to sleep!!
I have been talking to him about praying for sweet dreams, so tonight at bedtime, I went to his room with Angel Kisses spray to pray and spray those monsters away! I hope that he is able to sleep through the night.

"Angel, Angel
Help me pray
Keep me safe
Until the day!"
I purchased this spray when he was just 6 months old because I needed to make a minimum purchase amount to remain active on a party site that I belonged to. Little did I know that I would actually be using it 5 years later. The original company that I purchased it from has gone out of business, but it can be purchased direct from the manufacturer at Just Bubbly.![]() |

Peter Piper Picked A Pimpled Pumpkin!!
My daughter spotted this giant pumpkin near the front door of my son's daycare and her response was...
"Somebody needs some ointment"

Life Story Left In A Voice Mail!
Does your mother do cRaZy things? Mine does! I get to hear her whole life story in a voicemail.
"Hi Carla, this is your Mom (as if I don't know her voice after 39 years). It's Tuesday at about 9:15 AM. I didn't answer the phone when you called because I was in the bathroom and then I had to take the dog out again. He was playing around and did not want to come back in. I am about to go to the Dentist and then I am going to the grocery store. Well, I'll I guess you're not answering, so I'll try your on your cell phone. Okay.. Talk to you later! Bye, bye!"
Does anyone want to take a guess where MY mania comes from! LOL

Heifer Please! Incident 1.0 - "She's Too Busy"
September 2010
A stay at home mom of two school-aged children, emailed me to say that she does not have time to make ONE phone call to find out info on an activity for the brownie troop!!!
She claimed that she is "busy"! BUSY???? Name one person who is NOT busy?
I had to remind her that all of the troop leaders work a full time job, yet we find time to make calls, make copies, plan & conduct meetings and attend field trips!!
TWO WORDS... Heifer Please!!!

If I Said That When I Was Your Age....
When did parenting become so relaxed ? I sit in amazement of the things that my kids say to me and better yet, the things that I ALLOW for my kids to say to me. The sassy backtalk gets more intense on a daily basis and I ALLOW it to happen!
Here are things that my kids say to me:
"Build A Bridge and Get Over It"
"Blah, Blah, Blah"
"You Want A Piece Of Me"
What has changed over the past 30 years?
If I had been caught thinking about saying what some of the things that my kids say to me, I would have been "slapped into next Tuesday" as my mom used to say. We were taught to say "Yes Ma'am", "No Ma'am" "Yes Sir", "No Sir". You did not talk back and you did not question authority. Those who did not comply with the rules simply suffered the consequences!
Is it the sitcoms on the Disney Channel? Is it the fear of Children's Services being held over my head? Is it that I am so busy trying to be a "fun" parent that I let it go?
Maybe they get it from me ?
I am a naturally fun loving and sassy person... but so was MY mother. I just knew not to go there with her. She could hear us mumbling things under our breaths two rooms away!! How did she do that ?
They listen to their father, but won't listen to me!
My husband has some how found a way to command their respect.. Where did I go wrong? Is it the tone of my voice or is it my size? Am I just a whimp or a pushover? Am I raising kids or am I ruining kids ?
And those are my thoughts for the morning in no particular order!
